I left my heart . . .

in San Francisco!

semi-overcast 65 °F

Instead of driving into San Francisco yesterday, we took the ferry. It was a high speed one that took about an hour from Vallejo and made life so much easier. No tolls, no parking fees, no traffic problems! What a great idea. The first thing we did was take a city tour. It was a 2 hour tour that turned into 2 1/2 hours.

We rode in the open top of a double decker bus and had great views of everything. At the Golden Gate Bridge we were able to get out and walk around a bit.

They used 80,000 miles of cable to make the bridge! That's enough to go around the earth at the equator over 3 times. Wow! There were so many people walking and biking over the bridge it was incredible. The tour took us all over, to places like the Haight/Ashbury corner, Ghiradelli Square, the Full House house, and so many others.

We rode through Golden Gate Park, home of the Love In in 1967. The park is even bigger than New York's Central Park and was originally just a sand dune.

One million trees were brought in from other countries to help make it beautiful. The bus wasn't able to drive down Lombard Street so we walked down it ourselves.

It is really a beautiful street with flowers and trees all along the 9 switchbacks that the single block has. Another block of Lombard Street is beautifully tree-lined and leads up to Telegraph Hill, where Coit Tower is.

It was another steep walk uphill, but worth it. The views would have been wonderful if the sky was clear, but we had clouds, fog and sun all day. I believe it was a typical San Francisco summer day and we really enjoyed ourselves.

The mandatory clam chowder in a bread bowl was perfect for the day and delicious! We even wore jeans and sweatshirts all day, with an added layer in the evening. That was a nice change.
