Way Down Upon the Suwannee River, again!

Manatee Springs State Park, Chiefland, Florida

rain 74 °F

Yes, we are here on the Suwannee River, almost where we started this adventure 5 months ago! We traveled about 230 miles today, mostly in the rain and stopped at Manatee Springs State Park. It was a surprise when we woke up to rain this morning. We weren't sure what we were going to do, but upon arriving in this area, decided to stop here for the night.

We have only been here one other time, in 2006, when we first retired and came to Florida. At that time, March, the manatees were all in the spring run in the park. Right now, the manatees are out in the river, so there are none in the park. There are turkey vultures, snakes, ducks and deer, though. We actually had a group of 5 deer wandering through our mostly empty loop here at the park.

There is some biking and hiking here and we did a little of each today. There is a fabulous boardwalk through the park that is my favorite part.

There was rain, with temps only in the low 70s today!
