State #23

Lafayette, Louisiana

sunny 88 °F

This morning we left Carol and Russ' house not knowing exactly which way we would end up going, either east towards Vicksburg, MS or southeast towards New Orleans. As you can see from our map, southeast won out and we are in Lafayette, Louisiana, our first time in this state. It was about 380 miles today, but the drive was fine and uneventful, with only wind to contend with. We are at Bayou Wilderness RV Park and it is very nice.

The landscape changed quite a bit today from the dry, brown of the Dallas area to looking more like upstate New York with green grass and deciduous trees. For a while the interstate looked just like the Thruway! The re-introduction of Checkers and Piggly Wiggly has made us realize that we are getting nearer and nearer to our Florida home.

We had another beautiful day with temps in the high 80s, sun and wind.
