Lake Arrowhead State Park, Wichita Falls, Texas

Today our drive was not on the interstate, but a wonderful state road here in Texas. We took 287 from Amarillo to Wichita Falls and loved it. Nice road, not much traffic at all, and today there wasn't much wind either!
We are staying at Lake Arrowhead State Park because my brother recommended it. He was here in late March on his way to Albuquerque and said it was a nice place to stop. Since we have been mostly at places right off the interstate that are mostly just gravel lots, we decided to give it a try. It is a bit off the beaten path, but not too far. The campground is pretty empty, with only about 6 rigs here! We are the only ones in our loop! The park is pretty nice with camping, hiking, biking, fishing and swimming. The lake is man-made, as all but one of Texas' lakes are, but a good sized one. After we got set up, and turned on the A/C we went for a little bit of hiking to check out the park. We discovered a huge Prairie Dog Town here in the park. It is one of the eastern most colonies of prairie dogs here in Texas with a population of about 40 adults and 30 juveniles right now!
It was typical Texas weather today, hot! The temp got to 91 today, but not much wind
